Great Read: Dark Lover

I've known about this series for a very long time but I never picked it up cause I tend to like my vampire stories to come from Anne Rice but In my ever changing hunt for good books to read I finally decided to give this series a try and I just finished the first book today. The first half of the book was pretty good, not great but still pretty interesting but half way through it got titillatingly good. I couldn't wait to get to the next page and the next page. By the end of the book I was already planning my trip to the library to get the next two! The characters are beyond interesting and I have a feeling that this first book is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of great characters and great story lines. I'm already addicted to this series. Very good book to read and a great series to sink your teeth into.

Good Read: Song of the Sparrow

This was a really good book that I almost didn't even read because I didn't like the cover. I'm so glad I picked it up and started reading it. It's a really wonderful book that's a sort or re-imagining of the story of King Arthur only it's about Elaine of Ascolat and it's a magical realistic fantasy world! I even ended up loving the cover which in my imagination is a picture of Elaine and her simple beauty. Very good and unusual read!

Current Book Obsession: The Demonata Series

I've been spending most of my time this month reading. It's cold and boring during these winter months but it's a great time to curl up in a comfy spot and go somewhere else in the form of a really good book! I'd just finished Charlaine Harris, Harper Connelly series (Overall it was pretty good, not near as interesting as the Sookie Stackhouse series but they made for good, quick reads. The last two book in the series are the best!) and I was looking for another series to get into that would really... rock my world? Anyway last year I read the entire Cirque Du Freak series and LOVED it! It's was great series that I went through super quick and that really made my imagination do back flips it was so detailed and fantastical. So I looked into the author Darren Shan and found another series of his that's only 10 books called The Demonata Series (Picture of those books is above, the below pic is of all the cirque du freak books.) Now this series is way more bloody and definitely falls into a horror category but It's also kind of science fiction in that it's mostly about other universes and realities that exist around our own world and the demons and people that control them and about the stories of unique people who try to fight these demons to protect earth and themselves by traveling through these other universes in search of weapon that can either destroy earth or all the demon universes.

It's very twisted and complicated plot that weaves back and forth between different characters and different points in time but it's amazing! I'm only half way through the third book and I'm hovering on the edge of my seat to see what happens next, and next... I'm 22 and this series is supposed to be for kids and young adults but I really wouldn't want a little kid to read this one cause it's all blood, guts and demons and two I'm not sure they would be able to really follow it. Whatever the case I find this series to be very interesting and appealing to people of all ages that like fantasy, mystery, science fiction or horror genres. So If your looking a for a few good reads these would definitely fit the bill!

New Years Resolutions

*Learn To Drive.
I've been a perpetual passenger my whole life. This year I want to change that and get my license so I can finally drive a car... far, far away! *Take More Pictures.
I have hardly picked my camera up this year, just for the sake of taking random pictures. I miss going for walks and taking little adventures look for cool things worth taking pictures of.
*Become a Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian.
This is going to be the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Partly because as I sit here writing this I'm munching on the best meat wontons you could ever dream of. I've been wanting to stop eating meat for about a year. I've decreased my meat intake by a least 10% (not much I know... like I said this is going to be hard!) and been experimenting weekly with vegetarian dishes. The problem is that I love meat and the Idea of giving up Chinese food and my cousins out of this world ham hock green beans is enough to make me cry. So you might wonder why go vegetarian then? Well it started with a book about becoming a vegetarian. It changed my views on meat, yea sure it tastes good but the way they raise and slaughter the animals and the drugs they give them combined with really becoming conscious of the fact I'm putting a previously living animals dead flesh in my body. I honestly don't believe humans were ever meant to eat meat! For those reasons I really am going to give 2011 my best effort to stop eating meat. I'm still going to eat dairy and eggs. An I know eggs could one day be baby chickens but I'm also pro choice and I'm choosing to believe they don't have souls yet! *Sleep Under The Stars.
It's all part of my quest to get more in touch with nature. I want go camping or at least sleep in the back of a truck and fall asleep with nothing between me and the stars!
*Switch to dark liquor.
I'm just sick of vodka and run and all clear liquor. So this one will be easy. Only brandy and whiskey for me from now on. *Sleep on a strangers couch.
I've never been one of those people that can sleep anywhere. I either have to be in my own bed or a place I've been a hundred times before in order to crash there. I want to know what all the fuss is about. *Write more personal letters.
I can't remember the last time I used a stamp! It seems so old fashioned now but I think it's a sweet gesture. *Read at least 72 books in 2011! *Find time to hold up cute and clever signs that make people smile & think. * I want to get a family tattoo.
Something unique to us all but with a similar theme. I also want about 3 other tattoos as well.
*I also want to write more short stories and maybe work on writing a book.
*Get back into putting my art up on deviant ART and start selling my work.
*Watch an entire movie with the commentary on!
*Volunteer somewhere.
*Stop cutting my hair, I'm only going to trim it and then see how much longer I can grow it.

Memoir Of A Runaway

I just finished Neon Angel and I have to say it's the most interesting and oddly relate able memoir I've ever read! My other favorite memoirs include Prozac Nation which I was deeply obsessed with in high school and Running With Scissors. All of which have been adapted into movies!
At first Cherie Currie's memoir reads like a crash course on how to become a rock star. She's a unique and sensitive soul, tortured just enough by her parents separation and eventual divorce to evolve from a wallflower to a David bowie obsessed outcast. After being sexual abused by her twin sisters boyfriend at the age of 15 Cherie finds ways of expressing herself while hiding herself at the same time. She dons a mask of confidence complete with red, white and blue hair and takes control of the negative energy people are giving her and shoves it right down their throats with a -if you think I'm weird... I'll show you weird- attitude. It works and soon she's goes from queen of the odd balls to a sort of local trend setter. It's during this time she get approached by Kim Foley to audition for lead singer of his new band The Runaways. That part is history she makes the band and bonds with Joan and Sandy while clashing with Lita. The road leading up to their fame is bumpy and filled with dozens of drug addled and misguided adventures every teen faces, rock star or not. As well as shocking manipulations these girls faced and accepted at such a young age as the price you must pay to be in a successful band.So much goes on in this book that covers their first, second and final tour in Japan. One thing missing from the book is the strong bond Cherie says to have shared with Joan that is never really explained. Little comments about how Joan could always take her out of a depressive spell if just for a moment with a smile or a joke but nothing that really makes the reader understand it. It's almost completely over looked in the book which is odd because in the movie it plays a pretty major part in the bands dynamic as well as Cherie's life. I can only think that she wanted to keep those details private... but then other sad and horrible details pertaining to her sexual abuse and abortion where left in the book which suggests that maybe she left out the true nature and bond of the relationship she shared with Joan per Joan's own request. Either Way this book is so good and I wish I could give my opinion of every detail of this book and describe all the thing I took away from it. As you progress through Cherie's memoir it becomes less about the life of a rock star and more about her struggle with drugs and alcohol. Fueled by many things but mostly her inner demons from her childhood, her regrets about the band and her tangled family relationships. I've learned so much about her that I never knew and while I didn't feel pity for her I did feel a sense of protection. Cherie reminds me of a long time friend of mine. Someone often called a drama queen for her always emotional reactions. She feels so deeply and every pain she experiences is like a physical cut across her heart. Not everyone can understand how much emotions can control a persons life. Cherie is one of those people that I feel are so sensitive and tortured that they have adapted to waring armor of some kind, armor made of drugs, alcohol, art, hate, sex... anything, as a way of protecting and disconnecting themselves, that also lets them feel in control while being out of control. Idk maybe I'm way off. Anyway... so much is detailed in this book about Cherie's life before, during and after her experience with the Runaways but it cuts off rather abruptly at the age of 24 once she has cleaned up her act and become a drug counselor. She had so much talent and potential that I think everyone around her took a piece of her for themselves thinking she had enough to spare when really they ended up taring her apart. The good news is she rebuilt herself over and over again from singer to actress, to drug counselor to personal trainer, to chainsaw artist, to author... she's had quite a life and I encourage you all to read her memoir. I can't believe how much I've written and how much I still want to say but I'll leave on a good note:

Look at her now! Wow. Her and Joan both have only gotten better looking with age! They still seem to have the same look though, Joan all dark and edgy and Cherie is like glam tomboy. :)

Going to Metamora Indiana tomorrow for their annual Canal Days celebration. I'm broke and jobless so It's mostly going to be a big tease but hopefully I get some good photos out of it if it's not to crowded. I've also been reading, reading, reading day in and day out this past week. I got a Sookie Stackhouse book box set with the first 7 books and I've been reading non-stop and now they're all finished :( and I'm having some serious cravings to get the last two books but I'll have to wait. Seriously they are awesome, fangtasticly addictive books! I think it's safe to say they are even more addicting than the Twilight Saga books and the Harry Potter series! Yes they are THAT good!

So my flea market plans got rained in =[ but I did manage to do some shopping. i got mostly books, which always pleases me. Cooking now BLT dip and vegetable medley. I love this song by Cursive here is a link to the song no real video yet.
